FAQs

What makes Icehouse different?

We’re senior-led, full stop. The people who pitch the work are the people who make it — no junior bench, no handoffs, no layers between you and the talent doing the job. You get wickedly smart creative and ridiculously reliable production from a team that shares your KPIs.

How is a Studio different than an Agency?

An agency sells you a roster and bills you for the overhead that comes with it. A studio plugs senior makers straight into your team for exactly what you need — a campaign, a single asset, or extra capacity — without the retainers, the account layers, or the org chart you end up funding.

What if I already have an Agency?

Great — keep them. We’re built to slot in alongside the partners you already trust, picking up overflow, specialized production, and the work that’s about to come off the rails. Think of us as your team’s team, not a replacement.

What does working with Icehouse actually look like?

Fast and refreshingly direct. You talk to the people doing the work, we scope it honestly, and we fit your workflow instead of forcing you into ours. Full campaign or a single asset, we move quickly and keep production dead reliable.

So… What’s Up with Your Name?

Greater Cincinnati’s original “Ice House” (which happens to now be our office) kept things cool under pressure. So do we — steady hands when the workload heats up, deadlines loom, and your in-house team needs backup that just handles it.

What exactly does “Your Team’s Team” mean?

It means we’re not an outside vendor you manage — we’re an extension of your team. Our senior leadership has all been in client-side marketing at major brands, which means we’ve sat in your seat. We’ve managed the to-do list that never gets shorter. We’ve been the internal advocate who couldn’t get headcount approved for a specialized skill the team needed for one campaign. We built Icehouse specifically to be the team we wished we had when we were in your place.

In practice: we work in your tools, your channels, at your pace. You get senior strategy, creative, production, and post leadership — without the overhead, the layers, or the ego of a traditional agency. Think of us as an embedded creative team that’s already up to speed, already senior, and already on your side.

We have a strong in-house team. Isn’t that enough?

It might be — until it isn’t. Here’s what we hear from every in-house marketing team: the better you perform, the more work lands on your desk. Success creates its own capacity problem.

That’s what we call the In-House Paradox: you’re good at your job, so more work arrives than your team can handle. Specialized skills are hard to justify as full-time hires. Certain projects demand speed that internal processes can’t accommodate. Your best people end up buried in execution instead of the strategic work you hired them for.

If you’re looking for a marketing capacity solution, this is what it looks like in practice. We’re not here to replace your team — we’re here to make it stronger.

Who actually works on our account?

Four senior leaders: Creative, Strategy, Production, and Project Management. They stay constant on your work — not just for the kickoff meeting, not just for the pitch. Always.

When you need deep specialists — a specific type of animator, a media strategist, a UX researcher — we bring them in from our trusted network. You pay for exactly what you need, when you need it. That’s Senior Focus, Smart Scale: you get leadership continuity without paying for bench time.

What you won’t get: a shiny senior team at pitch followed by a junior team at delivery. The Pitch Team Is the Work Team. Always has been.

Can you plug in mid-project, or do you need to be there from the beginning?

Mid-stream is our specialty. We’ve taken over stalled campaigns, stepped in when a production partner fell through, run production on creative we didn’t develop, and handled execution on strategy we did. We plug in wherever the gap is — not just at kickoff.

Brief to delivery? Yes. Just production? Yes. Just strategy, then we hand it back? Yes. You tell us where you need us, and we adapt. That’s what it means to be a team extension agency — we fit your workflow, not the other way around.

Do you only do production, or do you do strategy and creative too?

All of the above. Strategy, creative, production, and post — all in-house, all under one vision. As an integrated creative agency, this matters more than it might sound.

When the people developing your strategy are the same people seeing it through creative and into production, ideas don’t get lost in translation. There’s no telephone game between your agency, your production company, and your post house. One Shop, One Vision. Brief to delivery.

Here’s what we can do: brand strategy, campaign development, brand identity, copywriting, video production (broadcast, OTT, digital), motion graphics, animation, photography, social content, performance creative, CRO, email and lifecycle, retail and commerce. If it lives in the funnel, we’ve probably made it.

What does “Ridiculously Reliable Production” actually mean?

It means no surprises. Ever.

If it’s in the treatment, it’ll be on set. Anything you don’t like in the treatment won’t “accidentally” show up later. Your boards are the priority, not the director’s alts. We deliver transparent, inclusive estimates with clear assumptions — so there’s less drama and more peace of mind.

We overcommunicate. We cross every t. We dot every i — twice. And if something goes sideways, we’ve already got the contingency plan ready.

If you’ve ever searched for a reliable production company and gotten burned anyway, you know why this matters. Predictable isn’t a dirty word. In production, predictable is just another word for successful. We have 45 years of that.

How do we actually engage? Project, retainer, or something else?

All three work. Here’s how to think about it:

Project-based: Defined scope, clear timeline, specific deliverables. A campaign launch, a rebrand, a seasonal push. Best when you know exactly what you need and when.

Retainer: Consistent capacity and priority access, ongoing. Think of us as your standing team — predictable availability without the headcount burden. Best when volume is steady and you need us reliably in the mix.

Hybrid: A retainer baseline with project engagements layered in for bigger initiatives. You get consistency plus flexibility. This is how many of our clients run.

We’ll suggest what fits your actual operational reality — not what maximizes our invoice.

Are you going to try to own our brand and grow our account?

No. That’s the agency model we’re explicitly not.

Most agencies are structured to grow accounts — more scope, more budget, more dependency. More of everything except results, sometimes. If you have an AOR you trust, we’re not an agency of record alternative so much as an AOR complement. Many of our clients already have a strong brand relationship with another shop and bring us in for the work that falls outside it.

We’re structured around making things. We earn more business by doing excellent work, not by manufacturing problems we can solve or building layers of process you can’t escape. We’re here to make your whole setup stronger, not to compete with it.

What’s the In-House Paradox, and how do we know if we’re in it?

The In-House Paradox is simple: the better your marketing team performs, the more work lands on their desk. Success creates demand. Demand creates a capacity problem. The capacity problem creates a hiring request that takes six months to approve — for a skill you’ll need for one campaign. Meanwhile, your best strategists are project-managing executional work instead of the thinking you hired them for.

Sound familiar? You’re probably in it.

Signs include: more requests than your team can handle, specialized skills you can’t justify as full-time hires, projects that need to move faster than internal process allows, or your senior team spending time on execution instead of strategy. If you’ve been looking for a marketing capacity solution, this is the pattern that creates the need.

We’re the release valve. Specialized capacity, on demand, senior-led, without the overhead.

How do you work with our existing tools, processes, and AOR?

We work in your tools, your channels, at your pace. Slack, Teams, your project management system, your brand guidelines, your review process. We adapt to how you work — not the other way around.

If you have an AOR, we’re already used to that. We’ve stepped in alongside holding company agencies, boutique shops, in-house creative teams, and everything in between. We’re not territorial. We’re collaborative, not precious — which means your feedback makes the work better, and we’re not too proud to show rough cuts early.

What industries and clients do you work with?

We have deep roots in CPG and consumer brands, with senior team members who’ve led marketing inside major brand organizations. We also work across retail, commerce, health and wellness, financial services, and more.

The common thread isn’t the vertical — it’s the situation. If you have an in-house marketing team that’s stretched, needs specialized capacity, or has work that needs to move faster than your current setup allows, we’re probably a fit. We’ve been in your shoes. That’s where we do our best work.

Can Icehouse take over a stalled or abandoned project?

Yes, and we’ve done it more than once. Mid-stream entry is something we’re built for. We’ve taken over abandoned campaigns, stepped in when a production partner fell through, and inherited projects that were behind schedule and under pressure.

We’re not precious about how we come in. If you need us to start from scratch, we will. If you need us to pick up mid-flight and land the plane, we’ll do that too. Tell us where you are and what you need.

Where is Icehouse, and do you work with clients outside the region?

We’re based in Covington, KY — just across the river from Cincinnati. Our physical space is a 160-year-old former icehouse.

We work with clients across the country. For most of what we do, proximity doesn’t matter — we’re already running in your tools, your channels, and at your pace. When production demands it, we travel. Come visit us sometime if you’re in the area. We’re pretty chill.

What is a “purpose-built augmentation model”?

It’s a fancy way of saying we’re designed from the ground up to add to what your team already has — not to replace it, not to compete with it, and not to create dependency on us.

Agency augmentation sounds clinical, but the practical reality is simple: you have a marketing director and a small internal team. They’re good. They’re busy. There’s work that falls outside their bandwidth, their skill set, or the speed your current process allows. We’re the senior capacity they can call on — strategy, creative, production, or all three — without hiring full-time staff you’d have to carry permanently.

We plug in. We do the work. We scale back down when you don’t need us. The team that was already yours stays yours. It just got temporarily bigger.

Are you more expensive than a typical agency?

The better question is: what are you actually paying for?

At a traditional agency, you’re paying for overhead — real estate, layers of account management, bench time for people not on your account, and the infrastructure of a 50-person shop whether you use it or not. You’re also paying for the pitching and account growth activity that benefits them, not you.

We run lean by design. A small senior core plus specialists deployed only when you need them. No bench, no bloat, no managing the managers. You pay for what you use — and what you use is senior.

We’re not going to tell you we’re cheap. We’re going to tell you the work is worth it and the model is efficient. Those aren’t always the same as inexpensive, but they’re better than expensive and slow.

Are you a marketing agency alternative?

Depends on your definition of “alternative.”

If you’re looking to fire your agency and start over, we might not be the right fit for that job.

But if what you mean is: I need something that actually works the way an agency promises to — senior people, no layers, built around my results — then yes. That’s exactly what we are.

We’re a Creative Production Studio. We’re built to make things, not grow accounts. The people who pitch you are the people who do the work. Your KPIs are our KPIs. If that’s the marketing agency alternative you’re looking for, we should talk.

What is a fractional creative team, and is that what Icehouse is?

“Fractional” is the right instinct — you want senior creative and production capability without the overhead of a full-time hire, available when you need it and scaled back when you don’t. That’s the model.

We’d call ourselves something a little more specific: Your Team’s Team. A fractional creative team implies you’re renting capacity. What we actually provide is senior leadership — Creative, Strategy, Production, Project Management — that stays constant on your work, with specialists deployed on demand from our trusted network. Not a roster of freelancers. Not a subscription to a creative tool. Not a production shop that disappears after delivery.

An embedded creative team that plugs into your workflow, runs at your pace, and is measured by your KPIs.

Call it fractional if that’s the language your team uses. We just call it how we work.
